Don't be afraid
Letter to the Oklahoman 7/29/06www.newsok.com/article/2822432/
I agree with Karen Ortwein's charge (Your Views, July 24) that the Republican and Democratic parties are both free spending. However, I recommend she and other disgruntled Republicans and Democrats take a closer look at the Libertarian Party and not be afraid of the party's call for less government and more individual liberty. We are basically a moral, loving and generous people. We don't need a big government to make us so.

Starting to smell
I feel like a fish out of water. What political party is left to be a part of? As a lifelong Republican, I feel my representatives have been transmuted into free spending "wheeler-dealers." The Democratic Party has nothing for me as I can't reconcile its viewpoints on some social issues and its own free spending. Green Party? It's no more honest than any of the others and sensationalizes environmental headlines to garner attention and money. Libertarian? Can't go there on various issues either as well as the party's general attitude toward the rule of law.
I want the Republican Party back! Truly the love of money is the root of all evil. I've never been so disillusioned with my government and felt so stranded. This is not to say I feel the war, taxes or any one thing is wrong. Instead, it's the general sickening over politicians always choosing themselves and their enrichment over the people they were voted in to serve. Just as I could not be neatly folded into a box, neither can all Republican representatives, but the general smell of the party is going rancid. The term "public servant" has sadly become something for the history books.
